3 Things I’ve Learned About God’s Timing

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

(Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV)

Over the years, God has used numerous circumstances to teach me about His ways. He often guides with patience, and yet, we often feel the need to walk quickly ahead. I’ve learned to slow down — and, of course, I’m still learning to — and when I do, I’m able to reflect on how I’ve seen His timing in my life.

I notice that He’s done so much more than I could ask or think, even when I thought it wasn’t possible. And I want to encourage you today with this simple truth: You can trust His guidance. You can hold onto His Word and trust His character, no matter what you’re facing.

So, with this in mind, here are three things I’ve learned when it comes to God’s timing:

What I Got Wrong About Hearing God’s Voice

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.

(Psalm 9:10 ESV)

I’ve been curious about the topic of hearing God’s voice for a long time.

To think that an all-powerful and all-knowing God loves us so much that He desires a personal relationship with us through His son Jesus Christ. The same God who is perfect (Deuteronomy 32:4), capable of doing the impossible (Luke 18:27), and created all things (Colossians 1:16) sees me, sees you, and wants to be involved in our lives. (I’m in awe of that!)

But I remember being confused about what it actually looked like to hear Him and follow His voice in my everyday life.

Let God’s Voice Be The Loudest Voice In Your Life

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

(Isaiah 26:3 ESV)

What’s one area of your life that seems impossible? The hardest to overcome, the hardest to have faith, the hardest to redeem. It could be a situation, a struggle, an insecurity, a belief — a particular area where, at some point, doubt seeped in and has never left.

I’ve recently learned that if there’s any place you should never doubt yourself, it’s at a roller skating rink.

Yes, really.

When God Gets Your Attention | Peace in the Storm (Part Two)

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

(Psalms 139:23-24 NIV)

Imagine the amount of preparation that goes into a wedding.

I had a tiny glimpse into the process several months ago as my brother and now sister-in-law planned for their wedding day in February. There were hours, days, weeks, and months of preparation. Selecting the right date, finalizing the guests list, figuring out the venue, finding the right dress, the right tux, the photographer, the food, the bridesmaids, the groomsmen — the seemingly endless list goes on.

But this entire season of planning, preparation, refining, and getting even the smallest details right were all for one special long-awaited day.

Doesn’t that sound familiar?
