Meet Caroline. A writer, blogger, and content director. In this week’s feature, Caroline talks about realizing the power of the gospel, taking focus off seeking approval from others, and fully pursuing security in Christ.
Q: What does “Confidence Without Compromise” mean to you?
A: Because scripture offers our minds eternal security in God’s character (who He is) and in the irrevocable value of His creation (who we are), and because the gospel offers us Jesus’s righteousness in exchange for our own sinfulness, we can be confident that we have the approval of the God of the universe, so we don’t have to compromise to secure the approval of others!
Q: How has your faith given you confidence?
A: My faith has equipped me to go to battle with my fear of man and instead wholeheartedly pursue my fear of God.
I used to be devastated when someone was disappointed in me, but I can feel God slowly bringing me to maturity in this area.
Now I know that when someone is disappointed with me, I can humbly approach God and ask Him to search my heart: Is this disappointment a result of my sin, or is it a result of that person’s unrealistic expectations?
If it is my sin, I can humbly repent and seek restoration. If it is not a result of my sin, I can press on, knowing that I was faithful to do what He called me to do, and I am not held to the unfair expectations of others. This is such a freeing way to live, and I am able to do what He has asked me to do with more confidence because disappointing others no longer has the crippling power it once had.
Q: What is a go-to Bible verse that you turn to when you need confidence or hope?
A: Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” and this verse reminds me that my appearance, personality, and talents don’t have to be sources of insecurity or pride — they can actually launch me into praise for the Creator.
Q: What encouragement would you give to other young women regarding living for the Lord?
A: I would encourage them to know the gospel story and its implications well! I make it a habit to write out the gospel story (Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection and what that all means!) on a regular basis so that I can reacquaint my mind with the truth I so easily forget. It equips me to love sacrificially (because Jesus loves me that way), to set down my wants for God’s wants (because Jesus yielded His wants on the cross), to rest in the approval of God rather than hustle for the approval of others (because Jesus’s death paid for my sin and secured my good-standing with God!), and a million other things.
Don’t forget the gospel, women! It is your freedom source and your forever good news!
